Noting the direct connection to the subject matter of While Seeking Dragonflies, one of my closest friends recently sent me this link:
It strikes at the heart of a disturbing trend happening in American culture today; a trend that to a certain degree began with the Twilight series. While these books are marketed as fantasy, it’s very clear that the male characters behave in ways consistent with verbal, emotional and sexual abusers toward their female love interests. The fact that impressionable girls as young as eleven-years-old are reading some of these books only adds to the moral dilemma. Is this the message we want our children to internalize subconsciously about romantic relationships? Really? The only glimmer of hope is that adolescent boys find them, for the most part, unappealing.
